Wow! There’s a New Website for Women!
Wowowow.com is a new website aimed at women 40 and older. Lily Tomlin, comedian, actress, and contributor to the website, says the targeted audience is women who, because of their age, have been the object of suppression for many decades. And this new website will hopefully be incredibly liberating for both those who contribute to it and those who read it. You’d probably recognize the site’s five founders from the media industry over the last few decades. Joni Evans, former president of Simon & Schuster and ex-publisher at Random House; Liz Smith, gossip columnist; Mary Wells, the ad exec behind the memorable “I Love New York” campaign; Peggy Noonan, the political columnist and former presidential speechwriter; and Lesley Stahl, the TV news reporter, are the ladies behind this idea. But that’s not all you’ll get if you read this website, which debuts on Saturday. The ladies have enlisted a slew of their friends to contribute to the site, including Candice Bergen, Joan Juliet Buck, Whoopi Goldberg, Marlo Thomas, Lily Tomlin, Joan Cooney, Judith Martin, Sheila Nevins Julia Reed, and Jane Wagner. Wowowow.com will have the same feel as sites like iVillage, as far as horoscopes, posts about love and marriage, health and fashion. The new site will also feature political commentary. The chief appeal will come from intimate conversations which will allow readers a glimpse into the lives of these fascinating businesswomen who broke through glass ceilings in a notoriously harsh industry.
