UK’s BBC and Australia’s Biggest Magazine Publisher Strike Deal

Australia’s ACP Magazines and BBC Worldwide have struck a 50/50 joint partnership to launch Australian editions of some of the UK’s best-known magazine brands.  The deal is the latest move in the BBC’s strategy to create lucrative global brands out of programming originally developed by the British state-funded broadcaster.  John Smith heads the BBC’s commercial arm, which publishes magazines in the UK.  An Australian edition of motoring magazine Top Gear is due out first with a launch scheduled for the middle of the year.  Good Food is believed to be next.  ACP Magazines has a similar joint partnership with Hearst to publish Australian editions of Cosmopolitan and Harper’s BazaarThe Financial Times  The Sydney Morning Hearald (AU)
