UK’s BBC and Australia’s Biggest Magazine Publisher Strike Deal
Australia’s ACP Magazines and BBC Worldwide have struck a 50/50 joint partnership to launch Australian editions of some of the UK’s best-known magazine brands. The deal is the latest move in the BBC’s strategy to create lucrative global brands out of programming originally developed by the British state-funded broadcaster. John Smith heads the BBC’s commercial arm, which publishes magazines in the UK. An Australian edition of motoring magazine Top Gear is due out first with a launch scheduled for the middle of the year. Good Food is believed to be next. ACP Magazines has a similar joint partnership with Hearst to publish Australian editions of Cosmopolitan and Harper’s Bazaar. The Financial Times The Sydney Morning Hearald (AU)
