Tony Snow Headlines Day One of the American Magazine Conference in Fla.

October 29th, 2007

The former White House spokesman handicapped the presidential race and spoke about the changes in news media.  Gail McGrady, President, Research One, Inc., offered ideas of how to conduct audience research on a budget.  Janesse Bruce of Body & Soul Magazine related her experience of selling a magazine to – and then running it at – a larger company.  Philip Penny, COO of Belvoir Media Group.  Ellen Oppenheim, EVP and Chief Marketing Officer of the MPA suggested that audience figures need to account for non-print readership and must be much more timely, so as not to compare unfavorably with other media in the eyes of advertisers.  And Tracey Ryder, Co-Founder, Edible Communities, has franchised her concept of regional magazines covering locally-grown food.  She began with Edible Ojai in 2002, and has expanded by franchising to 52 publications with circs ranging from 20,000 to 80,000.  The success rate to date: 100%.
