Afar’s Second Issue Sets Sights on Seychelles

Afar magazine’s second issue takes readers to the Seychelles, to Spain and to delightful hot springs around the world. But wherever Afar readers travel — whether in person or in the pages of the magazine — they travel “experientially,” seeking out new perspectives and ideas. As Founder and CEO Greg Sullivan explains in his editor’s letter, Afar is directed to an American audience, but to one whose members consider themselves global citizens, too. Sullivan clearly aims to create a different kind of travel title, and just how different we’ll find out over time. But he has already created a beautiful magazine — bright, surprising and intelligent throughout. Here’s to helping Afar deliver a successful second issue and then some!

The Intrepid Launch of a New Travel Magazine

Afar magazine is on newsstands now after a spectacular August launch party in New York City. Well, we weren’t there, but Advertising Age described the affair as “…like a magical wonderland.” Other media outlets expressed amazement that, in this environment, an actual ink-on-paper magazine would launch at all. But the press that we think will interest you the most concerns the editorial content — and quality — of the product itself. To take just one example, The Washington Post characterized Afar as “an adventure of a read,” and went on to say, “Unlike other glossies that rank hotels by thread counts and compare brown sugar scrubs at exotic spas, Afar goes deep inside a destination, rummaging around as an insider, not a face staring out a tour bus window.”
