Young adults are suffering from “news fatigue” from being constantly overwhelmed by facts, updates, and headlines according to The Context-Based Research Group. After analyzing the news consumption pattern of a group of 18-34 year olds, the group found that news consumption behavior differs among generations. Possibly the most important aspect of the experiment is that the CBRG found that the most effective way to deliver news to the young adult demographic is by starting with “a news alert headline for breaking news, followed by a short present-tense story that is usable on the Web and by broadcasters. The third step is to add details and format stories in ways most appropriate for various news platforms.” Associated Press (June 2, 2008)
