Sure, the cover story is about bagging your best winter buck ever — with a beautiful specimen staring alertly amidst the falling snow. But inside, on page 97, is the story of a couple of fellas chasing the Grand Slam of gobbler hunting through the very heart of America’s wild turkey country. That is, they traveled 1,800 miles through eight states in eight days, looking to bag all four turkey subspecies: the venerable Gobbler Grand Slam. There is all kinds of great content in the December/January Double isssue of Outdoor Life, including a sportsman’s gift guide. But this turkey quest may be the highlight, and a great example of the father-son, or buddy-buddy, roadtrip. We’re forgetting all about golf vacations and stepping through the turnstiles of every major league ballpark. From now on, it’s the Gobbler Grand Slam for us!
