Sales Up at Small Format Discount Stores

July 22nd, 2008

Dollar stores and other small format discounters registered a 2.6% increase in same store sales during the first quarter of the year (versus 2007).  The down economy is giving them an assist with their expansion plans in states with mature retail markets and tight real estate market, such as New Jersey.  Profitability is being challenged, however, both by shoppers trading down and by increased delivery costs.  NJ Biz  (July 21, 2008)
