A memorial service is planned for April 5th in Fairfield, CT.  After his retirement from Time Inc., during a 1987 interview, Durrell summed up the story of People from a circulator’s perspective in a mere half-dozen words, “The sales far exceeded our expectations.”  The cover of the 1974 national launch issue, featuring Mia Farrow, appears at left.  Folio:  (Mar. 9, 2008)
