People Under Pressure To Set Earlier Press Deadlines

May 21st, 2008

Under pressure from major wholesalers, People magazine is changing its press deadline from midnight to noon every Tuesday.  All of the major competitors  in the celebrity weekly category go to press on Monday.  While the later deadline has given People an advantage in covering late-breaking stories,  the cost of delivery appears to be the primary factor in the decision. “One distribution source said that the skyrocketing price of gasoline means wholesalers who in the past might have made two or three deliveries now want to make one or two deliveries.”  New York Post (May 20, 2008)
