New York Times Considers Charging Web Site Readers

February 4th, 2009

The New York Times is researching whether to charge for SOME of it’s content or ALL of the content on the website. Executive Editor Bill Keller said “A lively, deadly serious discussion continues within the Times about ways to get consumers to pay for what we make,” he said. “Really good information, often extracted from reluctant sources, truth-tested, organized and explained — that stuff wants to be paid for.” In 2007 the Times discontinued the online subscription serviced called “Times Select” that was generating about $10 million in revenue annually.
