iReport a Big Hit
In the two years that CNN’s iReport has been around, it has helped citizen reporting become a web sensation. So far this year, everyday-joes have posted 175,000 videos and photos to iReport and it has seen a 176% increase in submissions since this time last year. iReport and other citizen journalism websites, like FNC’s UReport and MSNBC’s First Person, give viewers the chance to be the reporters and digital cameras, camera phones, and high speed internet make posting pictures and videos easy. The first-hand reports are sometimes the most-captivating footage that the networks have. More than 85,000 citizen reporters are registered to the site. CNN is so committed to the success of iReport that it paid $750,000 for the iReport domain name earlier this year. TV Newser (Aug. 20, 2008)
