Indian Edition of Vogue Causes Stir

A sixteen-page spread in August’s Indian edition of Vogue featured luxury goods modeled by seemingly poor Indians, creating a juxtaposition some observers deemed offensive. Editor Priya Tanna said, “You have to remember with fashion, you can’t take it that seriously … We weren’t trying to make a political statement or save the world.” The New York Times (Sept. 1, 2008)
