June 18th, 2008
The Hearst Corporation is suing the developers of the Cosmopolitan Resort Casino, which is scheduled to open in Las Vegas sometime in 2010, for using the same name as its well known magazine. The Hearst Corporation is saying that naming it Cosmopolitan “demonstrates an intentional, willful and bad faith intent to trade on the good will of HCI’s [Hearst Communications Inc.’s] registered marks…” Hearst has asked for punitive damages of at least $500,000.
