Handling of Brauchli Resignation Upsets Dow Jones Committee

April 30th, 2008

A report published yesterday afternoon on the WSJ website revealed that the special committee established to oversee the WSJ’s editorial integrity was upset by the handling of managing editor Marcus Brauchli’s departure.  The committee felt that its members should have been notified earlier about the pressure Brauchli felt to resign.  Committee members expressed the view that being informed after-the-fact went against the committee’s agreement.  Under the agreement, the committee has the duty and responsibility to approve or disapprove such actions.  In an effort to keep committee members happy, News Corp. officials vowed to keep them informed during the search for Brauchli’s replacement.  WSJ (April 30, 2008)
