From Folio: 107 Magazine Predictions for 2008 (and Counting…)
The Folio: website promises to add to the list through the end of the year. Amidst the laments about B2B publishing’s struggles, web-vs-print re-hashes and schadenfreude-sounding predictions about executive shake-ups were a few signs of optimism about magazines. The NYP’s Keith Kelly predicts an ad-page rise of 4% for mags, thanks to the TV/movie writers’ strike and a saturation of TV and radio outlets with political ads. Discover magazine CEO Henry Donahue thinks 2008 will be a “…surprisingly good advertising year” as magazines do a better job of selling integrated print/web packages. There was also this tongue-in-cheek prediction about the newspaper industry from comedian Andy Borowitz, “Rupert Murdoch will reduce the size of the Wall Street Journal by removing the facts.” Folio: (Dec 20, 2007)
