Costco’s Conservation Efforts Include the Biggest Solar Arrays in Hawaii and Square Packaging

February 4th, 2008

Costco is installing skylights and solar panel arrays on the roofs of its warehouse clubs in furtherance of its environmental sustainability goals, which the company sees as a business imperative.  Six locations in California and Hawaii have been outfitted with the equipment at a cost of more than $700, 000 per store, and seven additional clubs will be outfitted this year.  Another of the chain’s green efforts is packaging cashews in square containers to save on space, which will lead to an annual reduction of 400 supplier truckloads.  The Seattle Times  (Feb. 3, 2008)
