Consumer Reports Announces School Safety Alert Program
In a message to staff members yesterday, Consumer Reports announced that it will launch a new program later this month to distribute vital safety information directly to parents of school-age children via a partnership with the National PTA and the National School Boards Association. The program — called the Consumer Reports School Safety Alert Program — is meant to reduce the number of children exposed to unsafe products, toys, and foods that have been recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) by distributing news of the recalls to each partner organization’s e-mail lists. The initiative will also open a new channel for Consumers Union to reach young families. Consumers Union staff members have been encouraged to reach out to their own, local PTAs to help spread awareness of the program.
