British Men’s Magazine Market Up 11%
Circulation for British men’s titles are up a signigicant amount. Two new weekly men’s titles are the cause of the soaring numbers. ShortList and Sport are free magazines; both have been launched in the last 18 months. Sport hands out 317,209 copies every Friday and ShortList distributes an average of 462,731 copies every Thursday in and around the London area. The men’s market was previously thought to have been shifting to the internet, however this increase shows that the opposite is true. And the increase also speaks volumes about the potential for free magazines in the UK, and possibly elsewhere in the world. Dare, a women’s magazine, also recently went free. The two men’s titles appear to be doing some damage among paid-for weeklies, causing circulation to drop. Media Life (Feb. 28, 2008)
