James MillerAs Vice President, Hearst Newsstand Sales, Jim Miller oversees all aspects of Hearst’s retail sales operations, from strategic planning to forecasting to program implementation. Miller leads the efforts of Marketing Managers in Princeton, who work closely with CMG field staff and the publisher’s Consumer Marketing Directors in New York City, to ensure effective distribution of Hearst’s monthly, weekly and special publications.

Since joining Hearst’s distribution operation in 1995, Miller has steered the company’s celebrated brands though the turbulent waters of wholesale and retail consolidation. He has orchestrated the single copy sales strategy of the successful launch for O: The Oprah Magazine, worked to maintain Hearst’s strength at the checkout and on the mainline, and has spearheaded improvements in CMG’s internal operations. Miller also developed the company’s “Rack Manager” program to streamline transactions relating to retail display.

In his earlier career, Miller spent 14 years with Times Mirror Magazines (TMM), rising from the field force to a number of sales management positions. He had broad responsibility for single copy and subscription agency sales for all TMM titles, giving him a detailed understanding of publisher circulation economics. Miller has served on numerous committees of both the Periodical & Book Association of America (PBAA) and the Magazine Publishers of America (MPA). He is a graduate of Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, North Carolina, and currently lives in Metuchen, New Jersey.
